For centuries, the Amazon has held special appeal for artists, naturalists and nature lovers. If your passion is photography, painting, fibre arts, design, bird watching, or just nature exploration and knowing other cultures, Calanoa offers workshops and tours to stimulate your senses, engage with local indigenous communities and broaden horizons in your art.

  • Live Painting & Chants: Accompanied by the spontaneous chants of Schaye B., L. Caruana and Liba W. Stambollion perform Live Painting - translating spiritual rhythms and sounds into image and colour.   • 4th INTERNATIONAL MARKET OF THE PEOPLE/4.Internationaler Markt der Völker im MVK, Museum für Völkerkunde: 4. bis 7.10.2012, täglich 10 bis 18 Uhr; Sa, 6. 10. (Lange Nacht der Museen), 10 bis 1 Uhr. October 4-7th, 2012. The International Market of the People will be held the Ethnology Museum in Vienna this fall, highlighting unique crafts and collectables from around the world.
  • EVOLVER INTENSIVE: Awakening the Visionary Shaman: the Shamanic Breathwork™ Process with Linda Star Wolf. As time accelerates, spiritual evolution is forcing us to awaken to the Visionary Shaman within to reach our highest potentiality as human beings.   • EXHIBITION: BEYOND BRAZIL, 18. July 2012 through 7. January 2013  Ethnology Museum in Vienna - Museum für Völkerkunde. Location:Neue Burg, Heldenplatz, 1010 Wien. Comprising over 2400 objects, it was collected by Johann Natterer (1787–1843) a zoologist, travelling the country a total of eighteen years.

  • THE AYAHUASCA VISIONS RETREAT: A unique workshop and retreat in the spirit of Pablo Amaringo with night time Ayahuasca ceremonies - November 3rd - 15th 2012. The retreat is facilitated by Howard G Charing and Peter Cloudsley, the authors of: 'The Ayahuasca Visions of Pablo Amaringo,’ published by Inner Traditions.This is a 12 day workshop and retreat with Mita Lozano, one of Pablo Amaringo foremost students and teacher at the Usko Ayar School of Amazonian Art. We will be working at the Amaru Spirit Centre run by the visionary artist David 'Slocum' Hewson which is located by the Itaia River near Iquitos.

  • AMAZONIA AMBIENT PROJECT: June 23 @ Aurora 2012 - Festival of Nature and Spirit in Pienza, Italy. Based on the experiences of an anthropologist Jeremy Narby and three electronic musicians, this project deals with Amazonian reality and its current implications, including ecology, shamanism and the encounter of cultures.

  • EVOLVER ONLINE LECTURE: April 8 -29th, Visionary Nutrition live online video course: featuring David Wolfe, Daniel Vitalis, Peter Gorman, and Morgan Brent, the course will explore numerous branches of natural diet including, pro-active health, Cacao shamanism, remote Amazonia, the society of Nature, wild foods, domesticated people, amphibians, nootropics, plant dietas, imaginal hygiene, and the human flowering response.
  • LOTHAR BAUMGARTEN: Evening of Time – Señores Naturales Yanomami 26 November, 2011 – 27 May, 2012 at the Folkwank Museum, Germany. 
  • ARTE AMAZONIA CHRISTMAS CHARITY IN VIENNA: When: Dec. 17-24. Arte Amazonia is teaming up again with Menschen Leben this Christmas at the Vienna Christmas Market at the Town hall to help support people in transition, especially women and children, who are refuges to Austria from other parts of the globe.

Join us for our team of highly experienced speakers, including Heiko Dittmer of ARTE AMAZONIA, that will fill both your soul and your mind with wonderful inspiration.
  • EVOLVER ONLINE LECTURE: Starting October 9th, join Jeremy Narby and a group visionary experts in an intimate online intensive series discussing the personal, communal and global healing powers of the Amazonian plant medicine - Ayahuasca.
  • ARTE AMAZONIA @ SEM, Slovene Ethnographic Museum: On the occasion of the exhibition ORINOCO, Indians of the Amazon Rainforest, by the Cisneros Foundation. ARTE AMAZONIA at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum with the live art installation of the COSMIC ANACONDA, a Yanomami basket sculpture symbolic of indigenous knowledge, by Leah & Heiko Dittmer of ARTE AMAZONIA. The program includes films, sounds, tastes, children programs, rainforest shop and and it is the pre-launch of the global art project, AMAZONIA-R-EVOLUTION.
  • THE COSMIC ANACONDA: Installation made by THE INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE presented live cam: See the THE COSMIC ANACONDA manifested at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum on September 25th. The 201 authentic Yanamami Basket sculpture depicts the Amazonian mythical being of  'ancient knowledge' which has sustained indigenous cultures for thousands of years.
  • ORINOCO EXHIBITION20 Apr 2011 - 28 Sept 2012, Slovenski etnografski muzej / Slovene Ethnographic Museum, Metelkova ulica 2. This extensive exhibition of over 800 artefacts shows the ever more endangered way of life of the Hiwi, Hoti, Panare and other Indian peoples who have lived in the rainforest of the Orinoco River region of southern Venezuela for thousands of years.

 

 

  • THE RAINFOREST WORLD MUSIC FESTIVAL: is an annual 3-day music festival held in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia, that features local musicians and live musical performances from around the world such as Scotland, Madagascar, New Zealand, Mongolia and Zimbabwe.

 

 

  • FILM COMPETITIONThe Native Spirit Foundation is pleased to invite filmmakers, organisations and individuals to submit their film to the 5th Native Spirit Festival of Indigenous people to be held in London and Spain during October 2011.

 

  • FILM COMPETITION: What’s your vision of a positive future? We see negative and depressing visions of the probable future all the time. What we don’t see enough of are visions of a positive future. This contest is about sharing your inspiring vision with the world.

  • DAM PROTEST IN EUROPE: Join Us in Support of Amazonian indigenous leaders NOW in Europe discussing the impact of large dams on the local communities. The delegation will engage European governments and dam builders and put pressure on one of the main financier of these projects – the Brazilian National Development Bank (BNDES) – to refrain or withdraw their support. The delegation will help to advance the preservation of the Xingu, Madeira, and Ene River basins and demand respect for the rights of local populations whose livelihoods depend on these riverines.

 

  • FILM: CHILDREN OF THE AMAZON: Showing on February 18th in London. This film follows Brazilian filmmaker Denise Zmekhol as she travels a modern highway deep into the Amazon in search of the Indigenous Surui and Negarote children she photographed fifteen years ago. Her journey tells the story of what happened to life in the largest forest on Earth when a road was built straight through its heart.

 

 

  • SAVE THE FOREST; SAVE THE CULTURE: The Amazon in Times Square! The Gabarron Foundation Partners With The United Nations to Promote the International Year of Forests Through Photographs of Amazon Rain Forest. Gabarron Foundation to Display International Year of Forests Photo Exhibition on Cemusa Newsstands in Times Square.

  • You can help protect the Amazon! Brazilians are increasingly organizing protests throughout the country. Saturday August 20 will be massive day of action in at least 22 Brazilian cities. Antonia Melo, a key leader of the movement to stop the Belo Monte Dam, has asked people to organize protests around the world on Monday August 22 in front of their local Brazilian Embassy or Consulate.
